Bike and Beach.  August 8, 2017

We left the comfort of Del Mar for a few hours today. Des and Kai biked the Tecolote canyon trail which was not super technical or steep but fun and mostly in the shade. This was a welcome change to the previous death ride with many “detours” through the dusty, rocky and hot Los Penasquitos trails. Des and Kai chose their own adventure today.

The event of the day was the Del Mar Summer Concert in the park. We made the most of the crowd scene.  Jen met the Rolling Stone band (okay, it was their manager and they’re a cover) and got a cool behind the band live photo. The beach was beautiful so we strolled past the masses on down to the shoreline and threw the football to some 70s rock music. Wow,  there are just a lot more people here now!

Below are few photos from yesterday. The boys snorkeled and Jen ran to Torrey Pines and back. Powerhouse park is the best lunch spot!

Del Mar and Friends. August 5, 2017.

Kai has been hanging with his life long pal, Riley, as much as possible! They share film making and music interests and both eat constantly. Our new favorite place to eat, by the way, is Lazy Acres in Encinitas. A friend from Port A also works there now. He says it’s “Whole Foods on steroids.”

Kai and Riley kickin’ it in the van.
Sherri and I had an awesome day – Pilates at the Encinitas YMCA then later an hour long foot massage followed by beer tasting at the Culture. I really needed the foot massage after waking from Del Mar to Solana Beach! It was an amazing spa experience. We took advantage of the special- head, neck, shoulders, back, legs and feet rubbed and scrubbed for $30! And it’s with your clothes on while reclining in a lazy boy chair. I’m sending Des and Kai over.
The ocean is blue and clear. We have surfed a couple of times but the swell is almost gone today. Del Mar is bustling with tourists- it’s horse race season!

Don Diego founded the Del Mar county fair and horse fairgrounds and used land he’d been granted in the late 1800’s. They actually hired this actor to play him in public in the 1940’s. I hope to get to the track this week!
